Hi, I’m Julia! I always describe my life, academic, and professional journey as chaotic, which has led me to travel around the world. My first adventure was at 22, when I went to study in Taiwan. That experience changed everything and made me addicted to Asia. I left after six months with the idea of returning soon, but COVID complicated everything, and life went on.
While traveling was impossible, I decided to continue my studies by pursuing a master’s in Asia-Pacific Studies at UPF, and as part of the program, I spent another six months in Seoul, South Korea. While I was there, COVID restrictions in mainland China started to ease, and I didn’t hesitate to find a way to go. And that’s exactly what I did! I got a student visa and, without returning to Barcelona, packed my bags and moved from Seoul to Beijing.
And what can I say...this decision changed my life once again. I didn’t expect to feel so at home, but China captivated me, completely broke my mental frameworks, and made me feel at home in a way I’ve never felt anywhere else.
Now life has brought me to Brussels, but whenever I can, I return to the great Asian giant. Out of nostalgia and excitement for going back soon, I decided to start this blog to share my experiences and knowledge about China with anyone interested. Now that it seems like the whole internet is “in a very Chinese moment of my life,” it felt like the perfect time!
